Tony Blackmon

Founder & Executive Director

On September 22, 2015, Tony woke up to an absolute nightmare. He found his daughter, Chaney, breathing but unresponsive after having overdosed. The official cause of death was listed as suicide by morphine toxicity. Doctors estimated that she had taken somewhere between 80 and 100 morphine. It is not exactly known when the morphine was obtained, only that it came from a relatives home.

Tony has also lost numerous close friends to suicide. Between 9th grade and when he turned 21 he lost nineteen friends to suicide. It was learned a few months after the death of Chaney that another friend was lost the week before Chaney.

All of these experiences combined led to a unique perspective of suicide and the way a person reaches that point. It also led to the founding of By Chaney’s Hands, and some very innovative ideas, concepts, and ways to directly assist people who are suffering from depression and mental illness that may lead to suicide.
